in the U.S. Armed Forces for twenty years, which included three

overseas assignments. I spent 11½ years in the USAF as an

enlisted member, and 8½ years in the U.S. Army (warrant officer

and commissioned officer). While in the USAF, I flew on numerous

hazardous duty reconnaissance missions against the Soviet Union.

On a number of occasions we had Soviet fighter aircraft intercept

us over international waters and try to shoot us down. I also flew
